Time is held for emergencies every day we are open, including Sunday mornings.
We open Monday, November 16. Until then the office cannot see emergencies.
Difficulty breathing or swallowing, uncontrolled bleeding, or a facial or jaw injury: call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room first.
Common urgent situations
What to do while you reach us.
General guidance for the wait, not a diagnosis. The first step is always the same: call.
Severe tooth pain
Pain that keeps you awake or does not settle. Call us. Rinse gently with warm water and avoid very hot, cold or sweet food until you are seen.
Broken or cracked tooth
Save any pieces if you can. Rinse your mouth with warm water and avoid chewing on that side. Call and tell us what happened.
Chipped tooth
Often less urgent than it feels, but sharp edges can cut your tongue or cheek. Call us and we will tell you how soon you should come in.
Swelling
Swelling in the gum, face or jaw needs to be looked at. A cold compress on the outside of the face can help while you wait. Call the office.
Signs of infection
A bad taste, a pimple like spot on the gum, swelling or fever alongside tooth pain. Do not wait for it to pass. Call us today.
Lost filling
The tooth may be sensitive. Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on it. Call and we will arrange to replace the filling.
Lost crown
Keep the crown safe and bring it with you. Do not try to glue it back yourself. Call and we will see whether it can be re-cemented.
Dental trauma
A knocked out, loosened or displaced tooth after a fall or impact. Call immediately. If a tooth is knocked out, keep it moist, in milk or in your mouth beside the cheek, and come in as soon as you can.
The one step that always applies
Call the office and tell us what happened.
